Canadian Armed Forces Veteran
At 27, Mark Fuchko is part of a new breed of veteran.
He brings us a compelling and personal story of perseverance, his experiences in Afghanistan, the role of Canadians abroad, and coming home to start over.
Mark’s tour this summer led him to meet royal newlyweds William and Kate before heading to Africa to conquer the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, as part of a team that raised over $800,000 for the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
What makes Mark’s story even more incredible is that in March, 2008, while in Kandahar province, Mark struck an Improvised Explosive Device in the armored vehicle he was driving and lost both of his legs below the knee. When he came home, his goal was to live a normal life again. After months of painful rehab, he spent more than a year learning how to walk on prosthetic legs.
If anyone thought Mark was about to slow down, they were mistaken.
