Bardish Chagger was elected to the House of Commons in 2015 as the Member of Parliament for Waterloo. She was appointed to cabinet by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as Minister of Small Business and Tourism, a responsibility she held until recently. In this role, she announced the reduction of the small business tax rate to 9 per cent by January 2019, and advanced Canada’s First Women Entrepreneurship Strategy. She launched Canada’s New Tourism Vision, and oversaw the best year on record for the tourism industry in 2017. Chagger cares deeply about small businesses in all industries and continues to advocate on their behalf.

Chagger made history in 2016 when she was appointed Leader of the Government in the House of Commons – the first woman in this role in Canada’s history. Chagger believes the House of Commons should be a collaborative place where middle class Canadians hear their voices and see themselves represented in the issues that MPs debate, including the economy, employment, the environment, and opportunities for youth. As a child of immigrants, she is proud to live in a country that affords all of its citizens protections under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. She believes in inclusion and community building.
